Years ago creating a website with a shopping cart platform was a huge project. Luckily several web development tools have been created to make it much easier to integrate a shopping cart system into your custom made website. If you don’t need a complete custom website built out, you could also use Shopify to build an online store.
What platform is best?
I choose to build the majority of my sites on WordPress. Part of the reason for this, is the ability to use well made plugins to achieve most tasks. If we are looking to build a eCommerce store, we can use a plugin called WooCommerce.
What is WooCommerce?
Woocommerce is a shopping cart plugin designed for WordPress. When installed, it lets you turn pages of your WordPress site into an online store. This includes custom made product pages and a built in shopping cart system.
WooCommerce or Shopify?
For a custom built site that only sells a few products, I would use WooCommerce. If you are making a site that is only designed to sell a high number of products, I would consider using Shopify. Both systems allow you to easily add products and have a system to track and fulfill orders.
Is Shopify Easier?
If you are new to web design and development, Shopify will be easier to learn. In addition, most people would say the order fulfillment side of Shopify is better than WooCommerce. If you want a site that is more fully customizeable, a WordPress site will give you more options.
What about Web Hosting?
Building an Ecommerce store with WordPress can be hosted on any web server that supports WordPress installs. I would recommend a host that has custom installs and optimized servers for WordPress to be sure your site has good site speed.
If you use a Shopify store, the hosting will be automatically setup with your site.
Can you Add A Shopping Cart System To My Site?
Yes, if you have a site that is developed in WordPress, we can add a shopping cart system to your existing site that will let you start selling products. In addition, your current content could also be transferred to a WordPress site if it is built on a different platform.
